Williams Racing, one of the world’s leading Formula 1 teams, worked with terptree on a transformative journey towards inclusivity and accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing employees and customers. This case study outlines the significant strides made by Williams Racing in fostering inclusivity and deaf awareness.

One of the key milestones achieved was the identification and training of deaf awareness advocates within the Williams Racing team. terptree has conducted comprehensive Deaf Awareness Training, ensuring that Williams Racing team members are well-equipped to communicate and engage effectively with deaf individuals.

terptree also worked alongside the Williams Racing HR and People team, to conduct an Audit on the deaf employee experience. As a result of the findings, here are a few of the improvements that Williams Racing invested in:

– Portable hearing loops for meeting rooms so a speaker’s voice can be amplified and background noise reduced

– Translation software which converts spoken language into text on a tablet

– Work ongoing to assess the HR onboarding and recruitment processes

– 10 employees to go through the British Sign Language, Level 1 course

– D/deaf visitors tour to Williams Racing on-site Experience Centre and collaboration with local Deaf school, Mary Hare

“terptree’s quality of service has been exceptional. The virtual workshops and training sessions which have been organised have been well thought out, detailed, engaging and interactive. Williams Racing are very much looking forward to continuing our journey with terptree.”

Claire Pagano, Head of IT Delivery, Williams Racing

“It has been a delight to work with Williams Racing on the transformation of their deaf employee, visitor and fan experience. Williams is a large employer within the South East of England, and a global brand, who are leading the way for others within their Industry, Sports and wider business” Victoria Williams, Founder & CEO, terptree

Recognising the importance of making the motorsport industry more accessible, Williams Racing is actively reviewing external content to ensure it can be enjoyed by everyone. This includes providing captioning for content on platforms like YouTube and their website, with the possibility of adding British Sign Language (BSL) overlay for content.

In conclusion, Williams Racing worked with terptree to create a more inclusive and accessible environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. Through working with terptree, Williams Racing has been able to identify advocates, provide training to employees, and improve accessibility in their facilities and content.
