terptree celebrates its 12th birthday! Yes, it is a happy 12th birthday to terptree!
From small beginnings in wanting to provide a much higher quality of British Sign Language (BSL)/English Interpreting to now having a huge mission of changing the world for deaf people.
Have a look at what we have been up to over these past 12 years.
20 September 2006 – terptree was founded
2007 – Created terptree online – our online booking system for BSL/English Interpreting services
2008 – Ran events over Deaf Awareness Week to educate people about how to communicate with deaf people
2009 – Presented at business events, local schools, and radio stations and ran the first signed carol concert in Newbury, raising money for National Deaf Children’s Society
2010 – Victoria continued to present at local Colleges to support young business students
2011 – Victoria represented terptree at Westminster Abbey in a service to mark the 40th anniversary of the coming into effect of the chronically sick and disabled persons Act (1970)
2012 – Worked with the National Army Museum on their Unseen Enemy exhibition to make it fully accessible in British Sign Language throughout
2013 – Won a Small Business Sunday award and met with Theo Paphitis and ran first ever event for Sign Language Interpreters and other Communication Professionals
2014 – Victoria interpreted for the Former Prime Minister, David Cameron, who attended the House of Commons to raise issues about deaf people’s access and terptree were the first in the UK to launch a series of Online Training Sessions aimed at improving access to interpreter education for Sign Language Interpreters
2015 – terptree launches brand new website and mission to ‘Change the world for deaf people
2016 – terptree won a West Berkshire Small Business Award, was shortlisted for the National Women in Business Awards and won the Entrepreneur of the month award with the Entrepreneur’s Circle
2017 – Worked with Royal Albert Hall on the first ever Relaxed Prom, and Victoria appears on South Today on a feature discussing deaf people’s lack of access to subtitles at the cinema
2018 –Ran the first People, Power and Parliament event with the Houses of Parliament to enable the deaf community to lobby and campaign for important issues and fund a deaf education video entitled “I am me” with Deaf Parents and Deaf Children
What 12 years it has been. We continue to be as passionate today as we were back on 20th September 2006, have many more exciting plans for the next 12 years ahead, and celebrate many more birthdays.
