Case Study

We spoke with Megan Johnson, D&I and Employee Experience Coordinator at Nash Squared, to learn more about their experiences.

Nash Squared is a leading global provider of technology and talent solutions, equipped with a unique network that realises the potential when people and technology meet. For over three decades, they’ve been helping clients solve broad and complex problems, building and scaling their technology and digital capability.

As a people-focused business, one of its company values is ‘Human.’

Therefore, Nash Squared and terptree made ideal partners when collaborating on ways to help the Nash Squared team discover more about what their business can do to help their employees learn more about the deaf community.

How did you discover terptree?

My manager and I were looking at what we could do to raise awareness of and support colleagues with disabilities. We came across terptree and were intrigued to learn more, so we arranged a discovery call to get to know them and see how they could support our business.

I loved what we learned on the call and could see that terptree would be a great company to work with.

What function has terptree performed for your organisation?

During the call, we explored options that could work for us. We decided the 10-week British Sign Language Program would be ideal for increasing deaf awareness for (initially) a selected group of colleagues.

This led to the inclusion of shorter sessions on some of our Power Hours.

Power Hours (we also refer to them as ‘lunch and learns’) are short, bite-sized training sessions designed for people to watch them live during their lunch break or when they’ve got time to sit back and listen in; it also gives them an escape from their everyday busy schedules. We instigated them two years ago so our teams worldwide can increase their knowledge and experience in various topics.

What benefits has this brought?

The 10-week BSL Program was a real education piece, and the terptree team did just that; they educated us, and those lucky enough to be included in the course came away with a better understanding of the challenges deaf people face and the ability to now communicate with them using a basic level of BSL.

The response from the shorter session they did for us– the Power Hours – was just amazing.  Attendees were so engaged; they got completely involved in learning to sign! Our teams have asked for more sessions like that.

What was the biggest benefit?

The positive feedback we received from colleagues about terptree’s course was a real eye-opener for us: we realised Power Hours was the perfect platform to offer more topics on diversity and inclusion, and it’s helped us progress with one of our recent initiatives – our fourth Employee Resource Group, NASHability which focuses on things like neurodiversity, mental health, accessibility and sign language.

We have been able to use the knowledge we learned from the 10-week course and discuss it with our NASHability committee members to improve the initiative further.

How easy was it to work with terptree?

It was incredibly easy. They delivered what was agreed, and so much more, and always showed dedication and professionalism.

What is the ongoing role?

We’re not sure what the ongoing role is yet, but I’m so pleased we now have a connection with them and can work with them more to find ways to make a difference in our organisation.

What is your advice to others who might be considering engaging with terptree?

I suggest every business does it! You will be surprised once you start talking to them about how much they can do to improve your deaf awareness.

Would you recommend terptree, and why?

I would definitely recommend them. They’re such a great community of people working on something they’re all so passionate about. They’ve all got a story about why they do what they do; they’ve all been personally touched by deafness in some way, and making a difference means a lot to them – and that’s infectious.

Megan finished by saying,

“It’s been an honour to work with terptree, and I can’t fault them … they’re brilliant! You can see that they want to make a difference and stay true to their goal of changing the world for deaf people. The work they’re doing is just incredible”.
