Christmas Countdown
Over the last 15 years, the terptree team are fortunate to have worked with some amazing students who are deaf or have a hearing loss.
The relationship between student and interpreter is always built from mutual respect and, in many cases, develops into a lasting friendship. We are privileged and proud to be a small part of their success and achievements.
We spoke to Girlie Nyika, one of our student clients to learn why choosing the right interpreter is such an important decision. Here’s what she told us:
I currently attend the University of Birmingham, studying Brain Imaging and Cognitive Neuroscience, and terptree is providing me with notetaking services. I receive professional notes after my lectures, and transcriptions are offered for any pre-recorded lectures I struggle with.
The professionals who have worked with me have been brilliant; they communicate well and always ensure I am happy with everything.
Working with terptree has been such a relief from academic stress. At the beginning of my academic year, I didn’t have any support in place and therefore struggled with my studies. But since working with terptree, I have been able to understand my modules and assignments much better. It also meant that I wasn’t spending hours playing catch up with my work and needing to extend deadlines (which I had to do before working with terptree!). Working with terptree has, in my opinion, been a blessing.
I would recommend terptree to other deaf students – 100%. My undergraduate university used a different service, and it really cannot compare to terptree. The quality of support and communication has been extremely wonderful, and I wish I had known about them from the start.
