Victoria started learning British Sign Language (BSL) at the age of 13 when her cousin Max was diagnosed as profoundly deaf. She very quickly become involved in the Deaf Community and could see the affinity with the community and had a real sense of belonging.

She gained a dream job working at the British Deaf Association as a Receptionist, where she was part of the team that exhibited the charities work all around the UK. She then went on to establish and head up a support service for the deaf community in Camden, London, followed by working within a Mental Health Service for deaf people. Whilst there she played a pivotal role working on projects to enable deaf people access to information on the Mental Health Act and accessible guidance on various areas of Mental Health. All of this experience gave her an understanding the gaps and allowed her to think about how she can change this.

During this time, she also trained and registered as a British Sign Language/English Interpreter (RSLI) and graduated in 2005 from the SLI course with UCLAN.
During her years as an Interpreter she has worked in a wide range of organisations including the following; BBC, Metropolitan Police, Houses of Commons, various FSTE 500 companies, Councils and Health Authorities across the South of England, having even interpreted for Prime Minister David Cameron when he addressed Vodafone team at their Newbury HQ.

One year on after registering as an Interpreter, she felt like she had achieved her big goal, but still knew that more impact needed be made. On considering what she had learnt and what could be offered to the Deaf Community – terptree was born with a strong mission to change the world for deaf people.

Victoria and the terptree team are actively working on projects that change the world for deaf people every day. Victoria has a drive about her that is contagious and she truly, deeply believes and cares about the work that she is doing. She is able to share her unique insights into how services can best be provided for deaf people whilst being able to creatively look at cost effective solutions that can have a huge impact on delivery.

Victoria truly lives, eats and breathes this stuff with her brain constantly brimming with concepts, ideas and solutions. When she’s not wearing her terptree hat, she is busy enjoying the best things in life with her husband and two young children. Loving her eventful social life, theatre, music, great food all with a glass of Champagne.

Debbie came to terptree with over 25 years of work experience gained from both the private and public sector. She started her career within the Lord Chancellor’s Department in 1990 and worked within tribunals and in the House of Lords, before moving into the Internal Audit department, where she trained to become a fully qualified internal auditor. She is CMIIA (Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors) qualified and in 1999 moved into a private accountancy practice to further her career.

From here, she was promoted through the business and became Director of the Internal Audit Division within the London office of the practice. She worked with a large range of clients within the public and private sector and was responsible for a team of up to 100 staff.  During this time, she gained a vast amount of experience in working in a number of industries, including universities, charities, corporates and financial services. One of her most rewarding pieces of work was working alongside the World Food Programme to develop their Internal Audit Manual and Train their team.

Debbie was instrumental in effecting change in a number of organisations she worked in through the recommendations she made and also through acting as a trusted advisor on all areas of risk management.

In 2011, she decided on a change of direction and started her own business as a Lifestyle Coach, where she worked with a number of people to help them make personal changes in their lives.

Since joining terptree she has worked closely alongside Victoria to develop business strategy and to promote excellence in the company’s operations. She has overall financial responsibility and ensures that our team exceed our client’s expectations in everything they do.

Debbie lives with her husband and two very spoiled cats. In her spare time, Debbie is a self-confessed geek and enjoys reading and watching all things related to sci-fi and fantasy.  She has even been known to attend various conventions such as Comicon.  She loves her gadgets and always enjoys being first with the latest technology, she is very proud of her fruit related Watch in particular.  She also enjoys good coffee and spending time in her garden, sometimes at the same time!  She tends to kill plants and flowers though, especially orchids, so leaves all the heavy lifting to her husband.

Alice joined terptree’s Customer Loyalty Team after finishing her degree of Theatre Arts, Education, and Deaf Studies at the University of Reading a few days before. She undertook two weeks of work experience with terptree in her University summer break as part of her degree and now holds a position in the company, which she thinks is very exciting indeed! She wrote her university dissertation on interpreter ethics, and recently performed her BSL Shakespeare monologue at the House of Lords.

Alice lives with her family and gorgeous Border collie, Alfie, in Oxfordshire. In her spare time, Alice loves watching films (although she will run away from any kind of horror film) and goes to the cinema so much that they know her mum by name. Alice loves all things cake related, but once baked an entire cake without sugar, so don’t accept any baked goods from her unless you particularly like the taste of flour!
